October is DV Awareness Month

@mamassage_brooklyn we'd like to share that October is #DVawareness month

Scientific evidence shows that bodywork and acupuncture can be supportive of recovery from traumas like domestic violence and sexual assault. In these studies, we see the reduction of anxiety symptoms, reduction of dissociation, and significant improvement of other psychological and physical symptoms associated with #PTSD

All of our massage therapists are trained in trauma informed care approaches to bodywork, and our intake form leaves room for #survivors to share what may be relevant for us to know in the bodywork context.

Kiera, our owner / founder is also an Acu Detox Specialist, providing auricular acupuncture (aka NADA or 5NP) @cvtcnyc - a non-profit organization that supports survivors with a variety of services including free counseling and legal support.

We know that as a women-centered and queer-friendly bodywork studio, we are likely statistically to be working with survivors even when trauma is not disclosed. We make an effort to create a safer space for survivors to land in their bodies and experience neutrality, if not calm and healing (we can work up to those as well).

This month, we encourage our survivor-clients to take care of themselves in whatever way feels beneficial. If that’s with massage therapy, please book now.
