October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is #breastcancerawareness month... and while you won't catch me pinkwashing everything, it's important to be real about advocating for the screenings you need and the preventative #medicine that can impact your life!
As the child of a #breastcancersurvivor I'm at a higher risk genetically and statistically, so increased screening measures are needed.
I've been getting annual #mammograms since I was 35, so year 13 this year! This year I also had BRCA gene testing (luckily negative) but since I fall into a heightened screening category I am now doing an annual MRI every year and six months later the annual mammo. Figured I may as well throw in a bone scan too since I'm deep in #permimenopause !
This year all the outcomes were good and all the screening appts went smoothly, but I still wanted to share that this is an important area of focus for our health and well-being as we get older!
I always learn so much from @theebooblessbabe posts, and it was awesome earlier this year to work with Stephanie herself and get to provide care since she's the reason I became aware that I should probably get the heightened screening! An amazing advocate on this - please follow her account!
And just another thing to mention that breast / chest #massage can be such a nice treat after a round of exams or just to focus on the health of this often-objectified but under-looked healthwise area of the body! You can book one here ... and I hope you schedule your screenings soon if needed! 🩷
